Cholesterol

Cholesterol is an essential nutrient in our body for life. Without cholesterol in our bodies would die. To achieve healthy cholesterol within normal limits, it is important to maintain a diet rich in fruits and vegetables that contain healthy fats the (Omega Fatty Acids). Supplemental nutrients can help manage cholesterol by promoting the bodys cholesterol levels to maintain within normal limits.

Cholesterol Overview:

Cholesterol is a sterol (a combination steroid and alcohol) and a lipid found in the cell membranes of all body tissues, and transported in the blood plasma. Cholesterol is found in small amounts in plant membranes. Cholesterol is synthesized in the body when a sufficient supply is not available from dietary intake. Cholesterol is present in higher concentrations in tissues which either produce more or have more densely-packed membranes (the liver, spinal cord and brain). Cholesterol is important in many biochemical processes, but is infamous for its association of cardiovascular disease with various lipoprotein cholesterol transport patterns and high levels of cholesterol in the blood.
The imprecise term "bad cholesterol" refers to LDL low-density lipoprotein, and "good cholesterol" refers to HDL high-density lipoprotein. There is only ONE form of Cholesterol, transported around the body bound in TWO different forms of lipoproteins. Cholesterol is insoluble in blood, but can be transported in the circulatory system when encapsulated by one of the varieties of lipoprotein, spherical particles which have an exterior composed mainly of water-soluble proteins.
Cholesterol is required in the membrane of cells for normal cellular function, and is either synthesized by the body, or derived from the diet and delivered by the bloodstream in a LDL form. The average amount of blood cholesterol varies with age, typically rising gradually until one is about 60 years old with some seasonal variations in cholesterol levels being higher on average in the winter.
